Justice shouldn’t cost more than a paycheck. In Washington, DC, the average cost of an attorney is $500 an hour. For many residents, that single hour costs more than a week’s income. Combined with rising costs for rent, childcare, groceries, and other necessities, too many low-income residents are forced to face legal problems alone.
That is where Rising for Justice steps in. We provide free legal and social work services to more than 6,200 DC residents each year. We listen first, respond with care, and advocate for our neighbors with compassion and respect.

Your gift sustains our core practice areas, including criminal record sealing, eviction defense and tenant advocacy, and respondent representation.
Eviction Prevention
Donations fund same-day legal services in DC Landlord and Tenant Court, keeping residents housed and preventing the lasting economic and emotional consequences of an eviction.
Conflict Resolution & Safety
Your support helps vulnerable individuals manage and resolve civil protection orders and landlord disputes with legal guidance that prioritizes safety and fair outcomes.
Community Stability
When someone remains housed, the impact reaches beyond one household. Stable housing allows people to care for their families, contribute to their neighborhoods, pursue new opportunities, and keep DC vibrant and resilient.
Integrated Social Work Support
Your donation supports licensed social workers who work alongside our attorneys to help clients address the practical and emotional challenges that accompany legal crises.
